Many people associate the popular television show Bones with anthropology, but that branch of the science is only one aspect of the field. Medical anthropology delves more into the human side of anthropology and how humans, their illnesses, health care systems and cultures come together when it applies to health and medicine. Medical anthropology is a very important field especially when it comes to the advancement of healthcare systems and making sure that everyone gets healthcare and more importantly, that every one gets the same type of healthcare. It also helps to integrate cultural medicine into Western medicine so that people can still practice what medicine is culturally relevant, and the spread of diseases such as polio and pertussis can be stopped with modern vaccines instead of what most westerners would view as a wish and a prayer.
